Herringbone
December 1, 2008

I created a mission for myself while I relaxed at home in Los Gatos for Thanksgiving. The mission was to teach myself the piano notes to Department of Eagles’ “Herringbone”.
After 1 hour, I had it set and ready. I wish I could write like Daniel Rossen does. Playing that song, and singing it later on record was a treat, and it just felt completely together. I commend this song… Maybe I’ll upload it here. Maybe not. Just listen to the original, it’s not too different, other than being a lot better than my attempt.
“Oh boy. When you’re gone, you are gone…”
“One after the other, after the other… Just like herringbone.”

can you put down some explanation of how to play that song?? i’ve been trying to teach myself and can’t figure it out for the life of me.
you know…i totally just did it note-for-note by ear. i’m not even sure now if it is correct, but it sounds close enough ; ). i’d say just play the song a lot and sit at the keys finding the tones. i think i’m playing it in g and d a lot. basic threes. it’ll come to you. don’t worry. thanks for reading.
