New Band Report – Here We Go Magic

January 7, 2009

There was a Myspace bulletin earlier in the week posted by Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste recommending a new band that he’s obsessed with lately. After hearing the 3 songs they have out and about, I too have become somewhat infatuated with Here We Go Magic. Formed by Brooklyn’s genre-bending singer/songwriter, Luke Temple, Here We Go Magic does something special with their lo-fi-new-prog-alt-freak-folk sound that Brooklyn is well known for harboring.

Playing alongside Peter Hale (drums) and Baptiste Ibar (bass) for live performances, Temple’s voice, guitar, and original use of distortions are that of a nuance close to a timeless journey through many decades in my ears. Their tempo and timber give ode to the finest of montage rock songs that fit between the ages of psychodelia, early seventies ballads, and post-punk indie rock, but without the drama or glam.

If you dig Grizzly Bear, Department of Eagles, Dirty Projectors, or any other expressive new bands that challenge all genres, then I believe you’ll be looking for this album when it drops February 24th.

Check out some of their songs and all the other 411:
